Who is PEHN?

The Perinatal Emotional Health Network (PEHN) of Western North Carolina is a group of professionals dedicated to supporting families with new babies. Below is an alphabetical list of our members:

Elizabeth Flemming, MA, LPC works as an Associate Director of Mental Health Education and assists PEHN in coordinating events, scheduling continuing education and enjoys the opportunity to help address perinatal health locally in our area.


Suzanne Fullar is a pediatric nurse practitioner with specialized training in infant-parent mental health. She hopes to help mothers struggling with depression or anxiety find more joy and delight in their new baby.


Sarah Gralnick is a massage therapist and graduate from Boulder School of Massage Therapy as well as a Florida Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife trained at Maternidad La Luz. She is the director of 4th Trimester Family Center, a resource and support center for parents.


Katherine Hensley is a certified birth and postpartum doula with Asheville Doula Services and is the Director of Helen’s Threads of Love. She is compassionate about mothers in the childbearing years and supporting them with education, skills and parenting strategies.


Garnett Hutchinson MS, OT/L is a pediatric occupational therapist and infant-toddler developmental specialist who has worked in NICUs and early intervention programs as an interventionist, therapist, and program coordinator. Her focus in the past 10 years has been on promotion and provision of infant mental health services.


Christi Lorenz has been an OB nurse for 33 years, working with mothers and babies in L&D, NICU, Public Health and postpartum. A certified childbirth educator since 1989, she helped start support groups for women struggling with depression in Atlanta Ga. and Asheville NC.


Judy McKay MD is a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist with a special interest in working with women who are pregnant or postpartum. She uses a family systems approach which includes working with the mother, evaluating the mother/baby relationship and working with the father/mother relationship as postpartum depression affects the whole family.


Molly Rouse MAA, PCD(DONA) is a cultural anthropologist and certified postpartum doula. She is interested in the diversity of parenting practices around the world, and passionate about helping new families get parenting off to a good start.


Kathleen Usher RN, BS, LCCE, LSW is a Prenatal Educator at Mission Hospital. She has worked with women and their families since 1986, helping them to prepare for and transition into parenthood. Her nursing and personal background also includes facilitating individual and group healing sessions.


Laura Yurko MA has a master’s degree in clinical psychology. She received post-graduate training in family systems therapy, which is particularly helpful in her work with families managing post-partum depression and anxiety. Ms. Yurko specializes in working with women in transition.
